The Book Jackets of Grove Press and Roy Kuhlman

Hello and welcome to "Uncovered" a site dedicated to Roy Kuhlman and Grove Press. This site currently contains some 600 titles -the vast majority designed (or believed to be designed) by Roy Kuhlman. 
 
I am a book cover enthusiast, neither historian nor graphic designer, so I will leave the telling of the Grove Press story, the lives of Barney Rosset and Roy Kuhlman and the influence their work has had on the world to qualified hands.  ​This site aims simply to uncover, to facilitate the unearthing of and discussion about incredible Art. 

 

The vast majority of the books displayed herein are from my collection. The task of curating this site has been quite daunting. I did not find any complete list of Grove titles (Evergreen or other) and no list of Kuhlman's works appears to be in existence. The research took up a great amount of time and came mostly from lists and adverts in my collection and from booksellers. You may click on any image to the right to enlarge it.

On the subject of time: this site has high-resolution imagery (because, after all, it's all about the images). This may cause pages and images to upload slowly. If you're in a hurry, this may not be the site for you -then again, if you're in a hurry, stopping to smell the roses (so to speak), may be just the thing to do.
